Please note that bicycles are not permitted on Port Authority Transit(PAT) buses or Light Rail Transit(The "T") subway cars. Hence, after a trip on The Duquesne Incline, the bicycle patron cannot expect to use a bus to further transport their bicycle. Bicycle riders may walk their bicycle between the Incline Lower Station and Downtown Pittsburgh, via the walkway on the Fort Pitt Bridge.
However, on a trial basis beginning May 2, 1998, PAT will allow bicycle owners to take a bicycle onto Light Rail subway cars of Routes 42L Library and 42S South Hills Village only, on Saturday, Sunday, and major holidays* only! During these times, only, bicycles may also be taken on Route 52 Allentown(BUT, only between downtown stations) and Route "Subway Local"(BUT, only between Station Square and downtown stations).
Note that bicycles are still forbidden on all PAT bus routes and on PAT Light Rail routes 42 Mount Lebanon and 47D Drake. Bicycles are forbidden on ALL Port Authority Rail and Bus Routes on weekdays(Monday through Friday), except for major holidays*.
When using Light Rail subway cars on weekends and major holidays*, bicycle owners are responsible for safely securing the bicycle in a location where it does not block the aisle or doors. At a later date, the program will be evaluated; if the results are positive, bicycles on Light Rail subway routes, on the weekends and major holidays*, will become a permanent program.
