Public transportation, between the Lower Station of The Duquesne Incline and Downtown Pittsburgh, is provided by the Port Authority Transit(PAT) system, operated by the Port Authority of Allegheny County, by bus routes serving the West End and South Hills sections of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Frequent bus service is provided by bus routes with the numerical prefixes 21, 26, 31, 36*, and also Express route 28B. In Downtown Pittsburgh, these bus routes can be boarded at designated stops(check the bus stop signs for specific route numbers) on Stanwix Street, Penn Avenue, and at the bus stop on Liberty Avenue next to the Hilton Hotel.

* Bus Route 36A does NOT serve The Duquesne Incline, nor the city's West End, as do all other routes with the numerical prefix 36. Instead, Route 36A uses the Fort Pitt Tunnel to go straight to Banksville Road and continue into the South Hills.
